Short description

In Search of Darkness: 1995-1999 is a documentary that examines horror cinema from the late nineties. The film explores various trends of the period, including the rise of Japanese horror, the influence of Scream, and the anxiety surrounding the turn of the millennium. It covers a range of productions, from major commercial successes to smaller titles released directly to video.

Written, produced, and directed by David A. Weiner, this is the third entry in a series of chronological explorations of the genre. It follows In Search of Darkness and In Search of Darkness: 1990-1994, and precedes In Search of Darkness '70s. Produced in the United States by CreatorVC, the film features a large ensemble of 49 credited cast members appearing as themselves. Notable participants include John Carpenter, Heather Langenkamp, Doug Bradley, Jamie Kennedy, Corbin Bernsen, and Jörg Buttgereit. The final production has a total runtime of 384 minutes.
