The Girl Who Leapt Through Time

Seventeen-year-old Makoto Konno is a high school student with no clear idea of what she wants to do with her life. She plays baseball with her friends in her spare time, struggles with her studies and is often late for class. After an accident that might have killed her, she discovers she can leap backwards through time, and she begins using the ability for ordinary purposes: retaking a failed test, indulging in repeated evenings out with friends, and steering small everyday situations her way. The consequences of these changes soon prove harder to control than she expected, affecting the people around her, including her friends Chiaki and Kousuke.

The film is an animated science-fiction drama directed by Mamoru Hosoda, written by Satoko Okudera and produced by Yuichiro Saito and Takafumi Watanabe, with Riisa Naka voicing Makoto. It was released in Japan in 2006 and runs 98 minutes. It stands sixth in the chronological list of Hosoda's features, arriving between his 2005 One Piece film and Summer Wars in 2009, and it was made by Madhouse with KADOKAWA, Happinet Pictures and Studio Chizu among its production companies.

It drew a modest worldwide box office of about 3 million US dollars. On IMDb it holds 7.6 out of 10 from roughly 75,000 votes, and on TMDB 7.8 out of 10 from a much smaller base of 2,310 votes. A critics' rating of 6.8 out of 10 from 23 reviews places it below both audience scores, though not by a wide margin.
