The Coast Guard

Set along the border between North and South Korea, this political drama follows Private Kang, a soldier in a coastal guard unit. Driven by a fanatical desire to prove his worth by killing a spy, Kang patrols a beach protected by barbed wire. During a night watch, he mistakes a civilian for an intruder and kills him while the man is with his girlfriend, Mi-yeong. This accidental killing leads both the soldier and the woman into a gradual descent toward madness.

The film was written and directed by Kim Ki-duk and represents the fourth of 13 films he directed, following The Isle and preceding Bad Guy. The cast features Jang Dong-gun as Private Kang, alongside Kim Jung-hak, Park Ji-a, Yoo Hae-jin, Jin Jung, and Kim Koo-taek.
