The American Southwest is a natural history documentary that follows the path of the Colorado River. The film explores the biodiversity and visual appeal of the region while addressing the ecological damage caused by dams and the threats facing the waterway. Through previously unseen footage, the story highlights animals such as beavers creating wetlands, the recovery of condors, and the possibility of jaguars returning to the United States. The narrative advocates for improved conservation and river management within these landscapes.
Directed and written by Ben Masters, this production is the second film in his career, following Deep in the Heart: A Texas Wildlife Story. Produced by Fin & Fur Films with Katy Baldock, Len Necefer, and Ryan Olinger, the movie features the voice of indigenous environmentalist Quannah Chasinghorse as the narrator. The United States production has a runtime of 107 minutes and was released on September 5, 2025.
