Set in Spain in April 1939, this historical drama comedy takes place shortly after the Civil War. To celebrate his victory, General Franco holds a banquet at the Palace Hotel. The organization of the event falls to Lieutenant Medina, who discovers that most of the city's top chefs have been imprisoned for their political beliefs. To resolve the crisis, the head waiter suggests releasing some of these prisoners to prepare the meal. Once freed, the chefs must decide whether to serve their enemies, attempt to poison them, or find a way to escape.
The film was directed by Manuel Gómez Pereira, marking his second directorial effort after The Ignorance of Blood and preceding Death at a Funeral. The screenplay was a collaboration between Manuel Gómez Pereira, Joaquín Oristrell, and Yolanda García Serrano. The cast features Mario Casas as Teniente Medina, Alberto San Juan as Genaro, and Asier Etxeandia as Alonso, supported by Nora Hernández, Óscar Lasarte, and Martín Páez. Produced by La Terraza Films, ICO, Generalitat Valenciana, and Crea SGR, the movie earned 4 million USD at the worldwide box office. It holds a rating of 6.9/10 on TMDB based on 96 votes.
