Danny Deckchair

Danny Morgan is stuck in a rut in suburban Sydney, working a job he does not value and sharing his life with his girlfriend Trudy, a real estate agent. When Trudy cancels the camping trip they had planned so she can spend time with a television presenter, Danny decides on an unusual response: he ties a large number of helium balloons to a deck chair and lifts off. A storm carries him far from the city, and he lands in the small town of Clarence, where he meets Glenda Lake, who works in a parking booth. With his old life out of sight, Danny takes the chance to start over under a new identity, and a bond forms between him and Glenda. Back in Sydney, the story of his disappearance draws attention, and Trudy eventually arrives in Clarence hoping to bring him home, though Danny has begun to see his life differently.

Jeff Balsmeyer wrote and directed this Australian comedy drama, his first feature as director. Rhys Ifans leads as Danny, with Miranda Otto as Glenda, Justine Clarke as Trudy and Rhys Muldoon as Sandy Upman. The cast runs to 81 credited performers.
