Double Whammy

Ray Pluto is a New York City detective struggling with emotional trauma after the death of his wife and daughter. His professional reputation suffers when a sudden back injury leaves him unable to stop a criminal, leading the media to label him a loser. While dealing with his physical pain and a strained relationship with his superiors, Pluto interacts with a variety of eccentric characters, including aspiring screenwriters and a chiropractor. His life becomes further complicated by a criminal plot involving his neighbor, the building superintendent.

Written and directed by Tom DiCillo, this was the first of two films he directed, followed by Delirious in 2007. The movie stars Denis Leary in the lead role, appearing alongside Elizabeth Hurley, Luis Guzmán, Victor Argo, Chris Noth, and Donald Faison. Produced by Gold Circle Films, Myriad Pictures, Apostle, and Lemon Sky Productions, the film was made with a budget of 4 million USD.
