Jack Conrad sits on death row in a corrupt Central American prison until a wealthy television producer buys him out. He and nine other condemned men from around the world are dropped on a deserted island and told that only one of them will leave alive and free. The producer, Ian Breckel, plans to broadcast the killings over the internet as a reality show, while the contestants fight for survival, and Conrad, a former soldier, looks for a way to end the game without becoming a killer himself.
Scott Wiper directed and co-wrote the film with Rob Hedden, following his 2001 debut A Better Way to Die; he went on to make The Marine 3: Homefront and The Big Ugly. Steve Austin plays Conrad, with Vinnie Jones as the fellow contestant McStarley, Robert Mammone as Breckel, and Tory Mussett, Madeleine West and Rick Hoffman in supporting roles. The production involved 60 credited cast members and 199 credited crew, and it was made for about 20 million dollars.
Released in April 2007, the film took in roughly 9 million dollars worldwide, well below its budget. On IMDb it holds 6 out of 10 from around 56,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.1 out of 10 from about 900 votes. A critics' rating of 3.6 out of 10 from 99 reviews is markedly lower than those audience scores.
