Bodyguard of Lies

Bodyguard of Lies is a documentary that examines the United States government's actions during the twenty-year conflict in Afghanistan. The film focuses on a systemic campaign of misinformation used to deceive the American public. To illustrate this web of deception, the production utilizes private audio recordings of high-ranking political and military leaders, confidential paperwork, and testimonies provided by government insiders. Through these materials, the film explores the global consequences of state-level dishonesty.

The project was directed by Dan Krauss, following his previous work on The Kill Team and The Anthrax Attacks: In the Shadow of 9/11. It was produced by Alex Gibney, Darryl Frank, and Justin Falvey, with production contributions from The Washington Post, Amblin Documentaries, See It Now Studios, and Jigsaw Productions. This 90-minute film is a joint production between the United States and Afghanistan and was released on September 12, 2025.
