Donkey X

Donkey X is a Spanish-Italian animated family adventure that retells the story of Don Quixote from an unusual vantage point: the donkey Rucio, Sancho Panza's companion and the narrator of the tale. In Rucio's account, the knight is not the madman of popular legend but a clever and passionate man, and the obstacles he faces are real rather than imagined. Alongside Sancho and the farm-loving horse Rocinante, the group travels through Castile toward Barcelona, where a duel awaits. The film was released in December 2007 and runs 84 minutes.

It was directed by Jose Pozo from a screenplay by Angel E. Pariente, produced by Julio Fernández and Fabio Massimo Cacciatori and made by Castelao Productions, Filmax, Bren Entertainment and Filmax Animation. The voice cast includes Luis Posada as Rucio, David Fernández as Rocinante, Andreu Buenafuente as Sancho, José Luis Gil as Quijote and Sancho Gracia as Sansón Carrasco, with 77 crew members credited.

The production had a budget of 18 million dollars and took in about 7 million dollars worldwide, so it did not recoup its costs. On TMDB it holds a rating of 5.4 out of 10 from 85 votes, indicating a modest reception from viewers.
