White Man Walking follows Rob Bliss, a white filmmaker, as he travels on foot through the American South. Following a viral video from 2020 in Harrison, Arkansas, Bliss spends two months walking over 1,500 miles while wearing a Black Lives Matter t-shirt. His goal is to bring discussions regarding racism and the death of George Floyd to rural areas where such topics are often ignored or met with anger. Along his journey, he invites others to join him and speaks with the people he encounters to understand the fears and resentment surrounding the movement.
The documentary was produced in the United States by BBC Storyville, ARTE, WDR, and JustFilms / Ford Foundation. It was co-directed by Rob Bliss and Denise Alder. For Alder, this project followed her 2024 film, Mablo Micasso’s Dream. Bliss appears in the film as himself. The movie has a runtime of 70 minutes and was released on May 21, 2025.
