Curious Tales of a Temple

This animated fantasy anthology is based on Pu Songling's collection of supernatural stories. Centered on the spirit-haunted ruins of Lanruo Temple, the film weaves together six narratives involving humans, demons, and ghosts. These tales explore themes of morality, death, and love through various time periods. To distinguish the stories, the production employs six different visual styles, including animation that resembles Song dynasty paintings and felt textures.

The film was co-directed by Xie Junwei, Zou Jing, Cui Yuemei, Liu Yuan, Huang Heyu, and Liu Yilin. For Xie Junwei and Zou Jing, this project followed their 2023 film Chang'an. It marked the first directorial credit for Liu Yuan, who later worked on Peppa Pig: Perfect Holiday in 2026. The voice cast includes Lu Lifeng, Qiang Lin, He Zhang, Chen Ziping, Fu Bohan, and Chen Linling, among a credited cast of 30 performers.

Released in China in July 2025, the movie earned 30 million USD at the worldwide box office. On TMDB, the film holds a rating of 7.6/10 based on 13 votes.
