Jaripeo

This documentary explores the traditional Mexican rodeo known as jaripeo, specifically within the region of Michoacán. The film examines the contrast between the outward displays of hyper-masculinity and cowboy tradition and the private lives of queer men. Through the stories of three individuals, the narrative follows their efforts to find community, identity, and a sense of belonging while navigating the rigid social expectations of an oppressive environment.

The film was co-directed by Rebecca Zweig and Efraín Mojica, who also shared writing and production duties alongside Sarah Strunin. It is a collaborative international production involving companies from the United Kingdom, Mexico, the United States, and France, including Chicken & Egg Pictures, ARTE, ITVS, and Misfits Entertainment. Released on January 25, 2026, the documentary has a total runtime of 71 minutes.
