Joe Kidd

Joe Kidd is a Western set in New Mexico, where a group of Mexicans have their land claims denied after a courthouse fire destroys the records that would prove their ownership. Led by Luis Chama, they take up arms to reclaim what they believe is theirs. A wealthy landowner, Frank Harlan, wants the same land and hires Joe Kidd, a former bounty hunter and skilled gunman, to track Chama down. Kidd soon finds himself caught between the two sides and must decide where his own loyalties lie.

The film was directed by John Sturges, the fifteenth of the eighteen features he directed, arriving between Marooned and The Valdez Horses. Elmore Leonard wrote the screenplay, and Clint Eastwood stars as Joe Kidd, with Robert Duvall as Frank Harlan and John Saxon as Luis Chama. Don Stroud, Stella Garcia and James Wainwright appear in supporting roles. It was produced by Malpaso Productions.
