Short description
El Topo decides to confront warrior Masters on a trans-formative desert journey he begins with his 6 year old son, who must bury his childhood totems to become a man.
What's left behind the scenes
- The director wanted to film a scene with ten thousand rabbits. But he was brought only three hundred. There is a legend that Jodorowsky strangled all the rabbits with his own hands and used their corpses in the plague scene.
- The film was shot as an underground project, but John Lennon liked it so much that he persuaded his producer to buy the rights and arrange worldwide distribution, and then also to produce Jodorowsky’s next film, “The Holy Mountain”.
- Due to the mutual hatred between Jodorowsky and the distribution company ABKCO, there is still no legal DVD release in the United States. Most Spanish and other non-English-language DVD versions have been censored, cutting scenes of sex and violence from the film.
- During filming, Jodorowsky demanded that all actresses’ contracts include a clause obligating them not to sleep with the director.
- When the script called for Krot to rape Mara, Khodorkovsky, the director playing the main role, dismissed everyone from the set except the cameraman and actually raped her.
