The Great Muppet Caper

The Great Muppet Caper follows Kermit and Fozzie, working as newspaper reporters, who are sent to London to interview the fashion designer Lady Holiday. When they arrive, they find themselves caught up in the theft of her valuable diamond necklace. Kermit falls for Lady Holiday's secretary, Miss Piggy, but the real thieves plant stolen jewels on her, and she is arrested for a crime she did not commit. Kermit, Fozzie and the rest of the Muppets set out to clear her name and catch those actually responsible. The film blends comedy, crime, music and romance, and features Charles Grodin as Lady Holiday's brother Nicky.

The film was released in June 1981 and runs 97 minutes. Jim Henson directed it, working from a screenplay by Jack Rose, Jerry Juhl and Tom Patchett. It was Henson's second theatrical feature as director, following Time Piece in 1965 and preceding The Dark Crystal in 1982, Labyrinth in 1986 and Dog City in 1989. Henson also performs Kermit and several other characters, while Frank Oz performs Miss Piggy and Fozzie Bear. The credited cast numbers 131. Made for a budget of 14 million US dollars, it took 31 million US dollars worldwide.
