Happy Endings

Happy Endings is a comedy-drama told through a set of interlocking stories about love, family and the secrets people keep. A filmmaker approaches Mamie, a woman who gave up her baby for adoption many years earlier, offering to help her find the child in exchange for access to her life. Elsewhere, a father and son become involved with the same woman, and two lesbian friends have turned to a gay acquaintance for help conceiving, with results that raise awkward questions about paternity. A singer meanwhile finds herself caught between an androgynous drummer and the drummer's conservative father.

Don Roos wrote and directed the film, his third feature after The Opposite of Sex and Bounce. The large ensemble includes Lisa Kudrow as Mamie, Steve Coogan as Charley, Jesse Bradford as Nicky, Bobby Cannavale as Javier, Maggie Gyllenhaal as Jude and Jason Ritter as Otis, among a credited cast of 39. It was produced by Holly Wiersma and Michael Paseornek for Lions Gate Films and runs 128 minutes.

Happy Endings drew a mixed reception. On IMDb it holds 6.3 out of 10 from roughly 9,800 votes, and on TMDB it sits at 5.6 from a much smaller pool of 121 votes. A critics' rating of 6 out of 10 from 104 reviews places it close to the audience verdict.
