Catane

Set in the remote Romanian village of Catane, this comedy-drama follows a community that has long relied on disability benefits acquired through questionable methods. When a local investigation begins, the residents face the possibility of being exposed. Rather than a simple tale of fraud, the story focuses on the villagers' clever and ironic reactions to a dysfunctional system, as they develop a unique form of communal resilience to ensure their survival.

The film was directed and written by Ioana Mischie, following her 2024 work Government of Children 2. It is a co-production between Italy and Romania involving the companies Mammut Film, Studioset, and Storyscapes. The cast features Costel Cașcaval as Inspector Mitrea, Iulia Lumânare as Magda, Cristian Bota as Silviu, Mihai Mălaimare as Mayor Pamfil, Corneliu Ulici as Anton, and Mihai Dinvale as Tache. The movie was released on September 12, 2025, with a runtime of 96 minutes.
