Smokey and the Bandit Part 3

Smokey and the Bandit Part 3 is a 1983 action comedy in which Sheriff Buford T. Justice, facing retirement, is drawn into a wager with the Enos brothers. The challenge is to move a promotional item from Miami to Texas within a set time, with a large cash prize for the winner and the sheriff's badge on the line. Cletus, known as the Bandit, is persuaded back into action with his familiar vehicle, but the pursuit quickly becomes a race between rivals on the road.

Jackie Gleason returns as Buford T. Justice and Jerry Reed, who played the Snowman in earlier entries, takes on the Bandit role this time, alongside Paul Williams and Pat McCormick as Little and Big Enos, Mike Henry as Junior and Colleen Camp as Dusty Trails. Dick Lowry directed, working from a screenplay by David Dashev and Stuart Birnbaum, with Mort Engelberg producing for Universal Pictures. It was Lowry's second feature, following The Gambler in 1980.

Made for a reported nine million dollars, the film returned about seven million worldwide, falling short of its cost. Audiences have rated it poorly, with a 3.5 out of 10 on IMDb from roughly ten thousand votes and a 4.4 out of 10 on TMDB from under two hundred votes. The low scores suggest it found little favour even among followers of the series.
