Metropolitan

Set in Manhattan during the Christmas season, Metropolitan follows Tom Townsend, a college student from a modest background who becomes involved with a wealthy circle of young New Yorkers. The group gathers in apartments to play bridge and debate social mobility, Fourier's socialism and the future of their class, and Tom's presence unsettles their comfortable routine. Edward Clements plays Tom; Chris Eigeman, Taylor Nichols, Carolyn Farina, Isabel Gillies and Dylan Hundley play members of the group, among a credited cast of 22.

The film is a comedy, drama and romance, written and directed by Whit Stillman. It was his first feature, arriving before The Last Days of Disco, Damsels in Distress and Love & Friendship, and he produced it with Jose Luis García. It runs 99 minutes and took about 3 million dollars worldwide.

Audiences rate it well. On IMDb it holds 7.3 from 14,000 votes and on TMDB 7 from 193, showing a positive but not unanimous response, with the TMDB sample much smaller than IMDb's. Critics gave it 8 out of 10 from 48 reviews, placing it above both audience scores. The limited box office reflects its small-scale release rather than the reception it received.
