This documentary examines the linked lives and artistic legacies of J.M.W. Turner and John Constable. Born within a year of one another, these two British landscape painters were intense rivals who each used their work to capture a shifting world. To mark the 250th anniversary of their births, the film utilizes expert commentary and close-up views of personal belongings and sketchbooks to reveal new perspectives on the artists. The project was created in conjunction with a specialized exhibition at Tate Britain.
The film was directed by David Bickerstaff and produced by Phil Grabsky and Amanda Wilkie. This production by Seventh Art Productions is the seventh film in Bickerstaff's career, following Caravaggio and preceding James McNeill Whistler. Released in the United Kingdom on March 10, 2026, the documentary has a runtime of 91 minutes.
