The Chatterboxes is a Japanese comedy and drama set in a town attempting to welcome minority groups. The story focuses on the Koga family, where the father and son are deaf. When a Kurdish family arrives in town, a minor misunderstanding sparks a feud between the two households. Natsumi, the only hearing member of the Kogas, and Hiwa, the only Kurdish family member fluent in Japanese, act as mediators. Although the two develop a romantic connection, the friction between their families grows. The situation eventually escalates into a town-wide issue due to a drawing made by Natsumi's younger brother, Shun.
The film was directed by Ken Kawai, who also co-wrote the screenplay alongside Kyōhei Otoguro and Haruka Takenami. The production was handled by GUM and LAUGHTRADE. The main cast includes Itsuki Nagasawa in the role of Natsumi Koga, alongside Kazuyoshi Kezuka, Hideaki Nasu, Akito Imai, Shunya Itabashi, and Karin Ono. With a runtime of 143 minutes, the movie was released on October 30, 2025.
