Max is heading off to college, eager to enjoy student life with his friends and to compete in extreme sports. His father, Goofy, misses him badly, and after losing his job he decides that returning to school for a qualification is the way to find new work. He enrols at the same college as his son, where his clumsy attempts to join in embarrass Max, whose plans for independence now have to compete with his father's constant presence. Father and son each have to work out how to live their own lives while still being part of each other's.
This animated comedy is a direct follow-up to the 1995 film A Goofy Movie. It was directed by Douglas McCarthy from a screenplay by Scott S. Gorden and Hillary Carlip, and produced by Lynne Southerland for Disney Television Animation and Walt Disney Animation. Bill Farmer voices Goofy and Jason Marsden voices Max, with Jeff Bennett, Jim Cummings, Brad Garrett and Vicki Lewis among the supporting cast.
Released in 2000, the film runs seventy-nine minutes. Its ratings are close to each other, at 6.4 out of 10 on IMDb from around sixteen thousand votes and 6.5 out of 10 on TMDB from several hundred. The similar figures from very differently sized audiences suggest a steady, moderate level of approval rather than strong enthusiasm.
