Jailhouse Rock

Jailhouse Rock is a 1957 American drama with music at its center. Vince Everett, a young man convicted of manslaughter after a fatal bar fight, serves his sentence alongside Hunk Houghton, an older country singer who teaches him to play guitar and pushes him toward performing. Once released, Vince pursues a career in the music business, aided by Peggy Van Alden, a record company assistant, and the two eventually found their own label. Success brings fame but also arrogance, straining the relationships around him.

The film was directed by Richard Thorpe, the tenth title in the chronological list of his features, following Athena (1954). Guy Trosper wrote the screenplay, and Pandro S. Berman produced for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and Avon Productions. Elvis Presley stars as Vince, with Judy Tyler, Mickey Shaughnessy, Vaughn Taylor, Jennifer Holden and Dean Jones in supporting roles. The soundtrack includes the title song, "Treat Me Nice," "Don't Leave Me Now," "Baby, I Don't Care" and "Young and Beautiful."
