Abysses and Wonders

Christine and Jean travel through the French countryside to confront their shared histories of loss. Christine seeks a farewell letter from her deceased father, which she believes her abusive mother hid from her. Meanwhile, Jean possesses a long letter left by his father, who died by suicide, but he has lacked the courage to open it. Their journey to visit Christine's mother evolves into an introspective and tragi-comic experience as they encounter various obstacles and people along the way.

This documentary was directed by Jean Boiron Lajous and produced by Loïs Rocque. The film was a joint production involving several French organizations, including the CNC and the regions of Sud and Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. Released on September 2, 2026, the movie has a total runtime of 78 minutes.
