Upcoming documentary My Undesirable Friends: Part II - Exile follows a group of independent Russian journalists who have left their home country following the invasion of Ukraine. The film focuses on the challenges these individuals face while living in exile across various nations, exploring their fragmented existences and their continued efforts to fight authoritarianism and seek the truth. While the first installment of the project examined their lives under increasing pressure in Moscow, this second part documents their forced displacement and the new realities of living abroad.
The film is directed, produced, and written by Julia Loktev, following her previous work, My Undesirable Friends: Part I - Last Air in Moscow. The production was supported by companies including JustFilms / Ford Foundation, Catapult Film Fund, Jewish Story Partners, and Marminchilla in the United States. The documentary features Anna Nemzer, Valeria Ratnikova, Ksenia Mironova, Alesya Marokhovskaya, Irina Dolinina, and Peter Ruzavin appearing as themselves. This second part has a runtime of 355 minutes and is scheduled for release on October 9, 2026.
