The Wood is a comedy-drama about a groom named Roland who, hours before his wedding, is nowhere to be found. His two best friends, Mike and Slim, set out to track him down, and as they search, the three men look back on growing up together in Inglewood, California. Their memories move between their teenage years and their twenties in the 1980s, covering early romances, friendships and the experiences that shaped them. Roland's doubts about marrying set the story in motion, and much of the film turns on his recollections of his first serious relationship.
The film was directed by Rick Famuyiwa, who also wrote the screenplay, and it was his first feature. It was produced by Albert Berger, Ron Yerxa and David Gale, with Paramount and MTV Films among the production companies. Omar Epps, Richard T. Jones and Taye Diggs play Mike, Slim and Roland, with Sanaa Lathan, LisaRaye McCoy and De'Aundre Bonds also in the cast. Made for about 6 million dollars, it took in roughly 25 million worldwide. On IMDb it holds a 7 out of 10 from around 11,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.7 out of 10 from a much smaller base of 117 votes.
