The Legend of Hell House

A dying millionaire hires a physicist to investigate whether life continues after death, offering him a large sum to spend a week inside a house with a violent and notorious past. The physicist brings his wife, a young psychic, and the only survivor of an earlier expedition into the house. Previous visitors either died there or lost their minds, and the new team must last seven days in isolation while trying to explain the unexplained phenomena around them. The screenplay was written by Richard Matheson, adapting his own novel.

John Hough directed the film, which was released in June 1973 and runs 95 minutes. It sits between Treasure Island and Escape to Witch Mountain in a run of films that also includes Twins of Evil and, later, The Watcher in the Woods. The cast is led by Clive Revill as Dr. Lionel Barrett, Gayle Hunnicutt as his wife Ann, Pamela Franklin as the psychic Florence Tanner, and Roddy McDowall as Benjamin Fischer, the previous survivor. Roland Culver plays the wealthy Mr. Rudolph Deutsch. It was produced by Albert Fennell and Norman T. Herman for 20th Century Fox and Academy Pictures, and was made in the United Kingdom.
