Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker

Set in a futuristic Gotham City, Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker follows teenager Terry McGinnis, who has taken up the mantle of Batman under the guidance of an aging Bruce Wayne. When the Joker, long believed dead, reappears leading a gang that calls itself the Jokerz, Terry finds himself facing the most notorious criminal of the old Gotham alone. Bruce is certain this cannot be the same man he once fought, so Terry must uncover the truth behind the villain's return and, in doing so, confront a buried chapter of Bruce's past involving the last time he faced the Joker.

The film is directed by Curt Geda, the first of several animated superhero features he made, followed by Batman: Mystery of the Batwoman and others. The screenplay comes from Bruce Timm, Glen Murakami and Paul Dini, who also produced with Alan Burnett. Will Friedle voices Terry, with Kevin Conroy returning as Bruce Wayne and Mark Hamill as the Joker. Angie Harmon, Dean Stockwell and Arleen Sorkin round out the main voice cast.

Released in 2000 and running 77 minutes, the film holds a 7.7 rating on IMDb from around 32,000 votes and a 7.3 on TMDB from over 1,200 votes. A critics' rating of 8 out of 10 from ten reviews places it slightly above the audience scores, indicating solid approval from both professional reviewers and viewers.
