Mariinka is a documentary that examines how a decade of conflict in Eastern Ukraine alters the lives of several young people. The story focuses on residents of a frontline town, including a boxer who trains as a paramedic and a woman who survives by transporting goods across borders. The narrative highlights the fragmentation of families, specifically focusing on two brothers fighting on opposing sides of the war while a third brother observes the situation from the United States.
Directed and written by Pieter-Jan De Pue, who also served as a producer alongside Bart Van Langendonck, the film was shot over a ten-year period. The production was a collaboration between companies from Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Sweden, and the Netherlands Antilles, including ZDF/Arte and Submarine. The final film has a runtime of 94 minutes and was released on August 13, 2026.
