My Blue Heaven

My Blue Heaven follows Vincent "Vinnie" Antonelli, a former mobster who agrees to testify against his old associates and is placed in the witness protection program. The FBI agent assigned to keep him safe, Barney Coopersmith, moves with him to the small California town of Fryburg, where Vinnie is expected to live quietly under a new identity. Staying inconspicuous proves difficult for a man used to nightclubs and easy money, and his behavior draws attention from the assistant district attorney, Hannah Stubbs, while hitmen remain a threat. Both men are also dealing with the collapse of their marriages, and the mismatched pair gradually form a friendship.

Herbert Ross directed the film, the eleventh of the thirteen features listed in his filmography, following Steel Magnolias and preceding Undercover Blues. Nora Ephron wrote the screenplay, and Ross produced with Anthea Sylbert for Warner Bros. Pictures and Hawn / Sylbert Movie Company. Steve Martin plays Vinnie, with Rick Moranis as Barney, Joan Cusack as Hannah Stubbs, and supporting turns from Melanie Mayron, Bill Irwin and Carol Kane among a credited cast of 48. The film runs 97 minutes.
