The Lambda Lambda Lambda fraternity travels to Fort Lauderdale for a national gathering of student organizations, with Lewis Skolnick and his friends expecting sun, parties and a chance to enjoy themselves. Their rival fraternity, the Alphas, works to undermine them at the event, and the nerds find their accommodations cancelled. They must outwit their larger, more aggressive rivals while trying to make an impression on the women they meet.
Joe Roth directed the film, his first feature as director; his later directing work includes America's Sweethearts, Christmas with the Kranks and Freedomland. Dan Guntzelman and Steve Marshall wrote the screenplay, and Ted Field, Robert W. Cort and Peter Bart produced. Robert Carradine returns as Lewis, alongside Larry B. Scott as Lamar Latrell, Timothy Busfield as Arnold Poindexter, Curtis Armstrong as Dudley Booger Dawson and Anthony Edwards as Gilbert Lowell, with Courtney Thorne-Smith as Sunny Carstairs. The credited cast numbers 32 and the credited crew 102.
Made for about 10 million dollars, the film took roughly 30 million dollars worldwide, a solid return for a comedy of its size. Audiences have been modest in their assessment: on IMDb it holds 5.1 from around 16,000 votes, and on TMDB 5.6 from 314 votes, figures that place it below the original among viewers rather than among the high points of the series.
