Intermission

Intermission is an ensemble crime comedy set in working-class Dublin. A supermarket worker, John, and his girlfriend Deirdre decide to take a break from each other, and that decision sets off a chain of events that pulls in an unlikely mix of people: a married bank official who begins seeing Deirdre, John's colleague, a detective pursuing his own agenda in the city's back streets, and a small-time criminal planning one last job before he steps away. Their lives, romances and schemes keep crossing as the story moves between them.

The film is John Crowley's first feature as director, arriving before Boy A and the features that followed it in his career, and it was written by playwright Mark O'Rowe. Colin Farrell plays Lehiff, Colm Meaney plays Jerry Lynch, Cillian Murphy plays John, Kelly Macdonald plays Deirdre, Shirley Henderson plays Sally and Brían F. O'Byrne plays Mick, among a credited cast of fifty and a crew of ninety-three.

Made in Ireland and the United Kingdom on a budget of about five million US dollars, Intermission took in roughly the same amount worldwide. On IMDb it holds a critics' rating of 6.6/10 from 99 reviews, while on TMDB its audience rating stands at 6.2/10 from 180 votes, a narrower gap between the two than the difference in vote counts might suggest.
