George Jetson is promoted to vice president and sent to run a mining and manufacturing plant on a distant asteroid, so he moves his family — Jane, Judy, Elroy, the robot Rosie and the dog Astro — to the settlement beside it. The plant keeps breaking down, and Elroy and his new friends discover underground dwellers whose homes are being damaged by the company's mining. George pushes for an arrangement that protects them and still serves the business.
The film is an animated science-fiction family comedy from Hanna-Barbera, released in 1990 and based on the studio's television series about a family living in a futuristic age. Joseph Barbera and William Hanna directed it, and both produced it, with a screenplay by Dennis Marks. For the two directors, whose earlier credits date back to 1940 shorts, it stands as the tenth film in the chronological list of their directing work. The voice cast includes George O'Hanlon as George, Mel Blanc as Mr. Spacely, Penny Singleton as Jane, Patric Zimmerman as Elroy, Don Messick as Astro, and the singer Tiffany as Judy. It runs 82 minutes and took about 20 million dollars worldwide.
Audience response has been modest: on IMDb it holds 5.6 out of 10 from roughly 6,100 votes, and on TMDB 6.1 out of 10 from a much smaller number of votes.
