The Woman in the Window

The Woman in the Window follows Richard Wanley, a professor of psychology whose specialty is criminology. With his wife and children away on holiday, he spends an evening at his club with friends, then lingers outside a gallery to look at a portrait of a young woman he has admired before. The woman herself, Alice Reed, appears beside him, and he accepts her invitation to her apartment. There an intruder arrives and a struggle ends with a killing, leaving the professor and the woman to conceal what happened while the police and a blackmailer close in.

Fritz Lang directed the film, the fourteenth of the twenty-four features listed for him, made between Hangmen Also Die! and Scarlet Street. Nunnally Johnson wrote the screenplay and produced. Edward G. Robinson plays Wanley, Joan Bennett plays Alice Reed, and Raymond Massey, Edmund Breon, Dan Duryea and Thomas E. Jackson appear among the fifty-two credited cast members. The film runs 99 minutes.
