Blow Dry

Blow Dry is set in Keighley, a small English town hosting the annual British hairdressing championship. Phil, who once ranked among the country's top stylists, gave up competing after his wife Shelley left him for another woman. Now she runs a beauty salon with her partner Sandra, while Phil works in a barbershop alongside his son Brian. When the championship comes to Keighley, Phil is drawn back into the contest he has avoided for years, and the event pits him against old rivals while romance stirs between the younger generation. The film is a comedy drama about ambition and bruised pride in the small, fiercely competitive world of competitive hairdressing.

The film was directed by Paddy Breathnach and written by Simon Beaufoy. It is the earliest of the three features listed for Breathnach, followed by Shrooms and Rosie. Alan Rickman plays Phil, with Natasha Richardson as Shelley, Rachel Griffiths as Sandra, Bill Nighy as Ray Robertson, Rachael Leigh Cook as Christina and Josh Hartnett as Brian.
