In Montana, the residents of a small town organize a reenactment of a battle between the American cavalry and the Blackfoot people to mark the conflict's centennial. Although the event is intended to be a harmless spectacle using blank ammunition, the situation turns violent when a participant uses live rounds and kills a young Native American man. In response, a group of young Blackfoot men seek revenge and flee into the wilderness. The incident escalates into a wider conflict involving local authorities and the National Guard.
