During World War II, an American infantry unit is ambushed behind German lines in Italy. Led by a hardened veteran known as The Sarge, the surviving soldiers try to find their way back to friendly territory while enemy forces close in. In the woods they discover a crashed alien spacecraft, its pilot dead but another being unaccounted for. The soldiers split up to track the fugitive creature, and their search soon draws them into a wider conflict: a rescue party of aliens is on its way to Earth, and the Germans are pursuing the same quarry.
Zone Troopers was released in 1985 and runs 86 minutes. It was directed by Danny Bilson, who wrote the screenplay with Paul De Meo; Roberto Bessi produced for Empire Pictures, Altar Productions and Charles Band Productions. Tim Thomerson plays The Sarge, with Tim Van Patten as Joey, Art LaFleur as Mittens, Biff Manard as Dolan, William Paulson as the alien and Peter Boom as Col. Manheim. The film blends action, adventure, science fiction and war, and it was the first feature Bilson directed.
On IMDb the film holds a rating of 5.3 from around 2,100 votes, and on TMDB it rates 5.4 from a much smaller base of 64 votes. The two audience scores are close, indicating a modest but consistent response rather than sharply divided opinion.
