Blown Away is a 1994 action film set in Boston, where Jimmy Dove works as a bomb disposal expert for the city police. He is preparing to marry Kate, a woman with a young daughter, and has left his old life behind him. When a bomb kills his former partner, Dove comes to believe the device was built by someone he once knew. His past has returned in the person of Ryan Gaerity, a bomber whose skills match anything the squad has seen, and whose attacks are aimed personally at Dove.
Stephen Hopkins directed the film, which sits between Judgment Night and The Ghost and the Darkness in his filmography. Jeff Bridges plays Jimmy Dove, with Tommy Lee Jones as Ryan Gaerity, Suzy Amis as Kate, Lloyd Bridges as Max O'Bannon and Forest Whitaker as Anthony Franklin. Joel Rice and Joe Batteer wrote the screenplay, and Pen Densham, Richard Barton Lewis and John Watson produced for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and Trilogy Entertainment Group. The production carried a budget of 50 million dollars and took about 30 million worldwide.
On IMDb the film holds 6.3 out of 10 from roughly 37,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.2 out of 10 from a much smaller number of votes, indicating modest but broadly similar audience approval. A critics' rating of 5.3 out of 10 from 23 reviews places it somewhat below those audience scores.
