Short description
A Christmas Carol is an animated adaptation of Charles Dickens's novella, set in Victorian London. Ebenezer Scrooge is a wealthy moneylender who has devoted his life to accumulating money while disdaining friendship, love and the Christmas season. He mistreats his clerk Bob Cratchit and rejects the cheerful invitations of his nephew Fred. On Christmas Eve, the ghost of his late business partner Jacob Marley appears to warn him, and three spirits then take him through Christmases past, present and future, forcing him to confront the consequences of his bitterness before it is too late.
Robert Zemeckis directed and wrote the screenplay, and produced with Steve Starkey and Jack Rapke. It is the sixteenth of the twenty-three films he has directed in chronological order, following Beowulf and preceding Flight. Jim Carrey voices Scrooge and the three ghosts, with Gary Oldman, Colin Firth, Robin Wright, Cary Elwes and Bob Hoskins among the voice cast; thirty performers are credited, alongside 262 crew members.
Walt Disney Pictures and ImageMovers Digital produced the film, which runs 96 minutes. Made for about 200 million dollars, it took roughly 325 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds 6.8/10 from around 141,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.9/10 from about 5,000 votes. A critics' rating of 6.1/10 from 196 reviews sits slightly below those audience scores.

- This is the third Disney adaptation of Charles Dickens’ classic novella. In 1983, the animated film “Mickey’s Christmas Carol” was released, featuring almost all of Disney’s classic animation characters. Nine years later, in 1992, “The Muppet Christmas Carol,” also distributed by Disney, was released.
