One Crazy Summer

One Crazy Summer is a 1986 comedy about Hoops McCann, a recent high school graduate and aspiring cartoonist who dreams of getting into art school. He heads to Nantucket for the summer with his friend George, and along the way the two pick up Cassandra, a singer on the run from a biker gang. Hoops falls for her, and when her family's home is threatened by developers, he and an eccentric group of islanders rally to save it. What follows is a chaotic summer of romance and rivalry, building toward a decisive contest on the water.

The film was directed and written by Savage Steve Holland and followed his 1985 debut, Better Off Dead... John Cusack stars as Hoops, with Demi Moore as Cassandra; the cast also includes Curtis Armstrong, William Hickey, Joe Flaherty and Tom Villard, among 56 credited performers. It was produced by Michael Jaffe for Warner Bros. Pictures and A&M Films on a budget of 9 million dollars, and it took in 13 million dollars worldwide.
