Short description

Jet Lag is a romantic comedy-drama set largely inside a Paris airport, where two strangers are stranded together when a labor strike grounds their flights. Rose, a beautician played by Juliette Binoche, is leaving a relationship behind and heading for Mexico. Félix, played by Jean Reno, is a businessman traveling on to Munich. She is talkative and outgoing, he is reserved and work-focused, and the two initially have little patience for each other. Forced into each other's company, and eventually into sharing a hotel room for the night, they begin to move past their mutual irritation. The film was directed by Danièle Thompson, who wrote the screenplay with Christopher Thompson. It was released in 2002 and runs 91 minutes. The supporting cast includes Sergi López as Sergio and Raoul Billerey as Félix's father. The production had a budget of 85 million USD and took in 7 million USD worldwide. On IMDb it holds a rating of 6.1/10 from around 6,300 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 5.5/10 from roughly 147 votes. A critics' rating of 5.7/10 from 68 reviews places it near the audience scores rather than far apart from them.

What's left behind the scenes

  • Director and screenwriter Danielle Thompson originally wrote this script for Hollywood in the early 1990s, and the protagonist was American. She later reworked the script into this version together with her son, Christopher.
  • During the preparation for filming, director and screenwriter Danielle Thompson told Juliette Binoche (who played Rosa) to study Shirley MacLaine's performance in Billy Wilder's drama 'The Apartment' (1960).
  • Isabelle Adjani was initially considered for the role of Rosa, but the part eventually went to Juliette Binoche.
