Easy Money

Monty Capuletti, a photographer from New York, enjoys drinking, gambling, smoking and carousing, though he also has a wife and two daughters. When his wealthy mother-in-law dies, her will offers the family a large inheritance, a sum in the millions along with a Manhattan store, on one condition: Monty must go a full year without his vices, including his excess weight. Torn between his old habits and the promise of wealth, and encouraged by his family while tempted by his friends, he tries to hold to the terms as the months pass.

Easy Money is a 1983 comedy directed by James Signorelli, the first of the three features listed in his filmography, made before Elvira: Mistress of the Dark and An SNL Valentine. Rodney Dangerfield stars as Monty, with Joe Pesci as his friend Nicky, Geraldine Fitzgerald as Mrs. Monahan, Candice Azzara as Rose and Val Avery and Tom Noonan in supporting roles. Dangerfield wrote the screenplay with Dennis Blair and P. J. O'Rourke, and John Nicolella produced.

The film took about 29 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds 6.2 out of 10 from roughly 11,000 votes, and on TMDB 6 out of 10 from about 150 votes, both suggesting a modest but lasting following. A critics' rating of 5.5 out of 10 from 10 reviews sits close to those audience scores.
