Exit to Eden

Elliot Slater, a professional photographer, accidentally captures images of a jewel smuggler named Omar while passing through an airport. The photographs become evidence of the thief's face, so Omar and his partner Nina follow Elliot to a private island resort known as Eden, hoping to destroy the film before it reaches the authorities. Two Los Angeles detectives, Fred Lavery and Sheila Kingston, trail the criminals in turn, posing as guests at the resort. Elliot, meanwhile, has traveled to Eden to explore his sexuality in a setting built around fantasy and role-play, and he becomes involved with Lisa Emerson, the woman who runs the island. The film follows both the criminals' pursuit and Elliot's introduction to a world of fetish clubs, dominatrices and therapy.

Garry Marshall directed this American comedy, crime and thriller, his eighth film in chronological order, between Frankie and Johnny and Dear God. Bob Brunner and Deborah Amelon wrote the screenplay, and Marshall produced with Alexandra Rose for Savoy Pictures. The cast includes Dana Delany as Lisa Emerson, Paul Mercurio as Elliot Slater, Rosie O'Donnell as Sheila Kingston, Dan Aykroyd as Fred Lavery, Héctor Elizondo as Dr. Martin Halifax and Stuart Wilson as Omar Tillington, with 86 credited performers overall.

The film was released in October 1994 to weak results. On a budget reported at 25 million dollars, it earned about 7 million worldwide, a substantial shortfall. Audiences were unimpressed: on IMDb it holds 4.3 from roughly 7,700 votes and on TMDB 4.2 from about 102. A critics' rating of 3.2 from 19 reviews sits below even those audience figures.
