Tokyo Pop

A struggling rock singer feels undervalued by her bandmates and decides to leave for Tokyo after receiving a postcard. She funds her trip using her small savings and rent money belonging to a former partner. Once in Japan, she experiences various cultural clashes and eventually finds work as a vocalist for a local rock ensemble that wants a foreign member to attract more attention.

This comedy and romance was directed by Fran Rubel Kuzui, who also co-wrote the screenplay. It is the first of two films she directed, followed by Buffy the Vampire Slayer in 1992. The movie was a joint production between the United States and Japan, produced by Kaz Kuzui through Kuzui Enterprises. The cast features Carrie Hamilton as Wendy Reed and Diamond Yukai as Hiro Yamaguchi, alongside Tetsurō Tamba and Taiji Tonoyama. The production credited a total of 58 cast members and 41 crew members.
