A brother and sister flee Japanese-occupied Shanghai for Taiwan, where their grandfather runs a kung fu school. Their arrival draws them into a wider struggle: the head of a Japanese martial arts school on the island intends to bring every other school under his control, and the grandfather stands in his way. The film follows the resistance that grows around the family and their school.
Lo Wei directed New Fist of Fury, working from a screenplay he wrote with Pan Lei, with Hsu Li-Hwa producing for Lo Wei Motion Picture Co. It was released in 1976, between Fist of Fury (1972) and To Kill with Intrigue (1977) in a directing career that also includes The Big Boss (1971). The cast is led by Jackie Chan as Lung, with Nora Miao, Chan Sing, Henry Luk Yat-Lung, Yi Ming and Suen Lam.
The production had a reported budget of 10 million USD, and the film runs 119 minutes. Audience response has been modest: on IMDb it holds 5.5 out of 10 from around 2,100 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6 out of 10 from about 99 votes, a small sample that reflects limited engagement rather than enthusiasm. It is a Hong Kong and Taiwan co-production in the action, drama and thriller genres.
