The New Adventures of Pippi Longstocking

The New Adventures of Pippi Longstocking follows a free-spirited girl who settles into her family's old house after her father is lost at sea. Living with her horse and a pet monkey, she becomes friends with two neighbouring children, Tommy and Annika, who are drawn to her unconventional ways. Their adventures together are shadowed by adults who want to take charge of her: the staff of a children's home and others who have designs on the property she occupies.

Ken Annakin directed and wrote the screenplay, with Gary Mehlman and Walter Moshay producing. The film came late in Annakin's directing career, after a run of pictures that included Nor the Moon by Night, Swiss Family Robinson, The Longest Day, Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines and The Call of the Wild. Tami Erin plays Pippi, with David Seaman and Cory Crow as Tommy and Annika, and Eileen Brennan as Miss Bannister. Dennis Dugan and Dianne Hull appear as the children's parents.

Produced by Columbia Pictures as a co-production between the United States and Sweden, the film runs 100 minutes. Against a budget of about 5 million dollars, it took in roughly 4 million worldwide, and it rates 5.9 out of 10 on IMDb from around 5,000 votes and the same score on TMDB from a much smaller base of 83 votes.
