The Magnificent One

Francois Merlin is a writer of pulp spy novels featuring a daring secret agent named Bob Saint-Clar. While Bob is a confident and seductive hero, Francois is a divorced man struggling with financial problems and strict deadlines from his publisher. To finish his latest book, Francois integrates his mundane reality into the plot, basing the story's characters on the people in his life. This includes transforming his beautiful neighbor, an English sociology student named Christine, into the agent's love interest.

Directed by Philippe de Broca, the film was released in 1973.
