Murder at the Gallop

Murder at the Gallop is a British mystery comedy from 1963. Wealthy, elderly Mr. Enderby dies of an apparent heart attack, and the death is treated as natural. Miss Jane Marple and her friend Jim Stringer, who were present, are not convinced. When a relative openly suggests that the old man was murdered, suspicion falls on the family members who stand to inherit, and Miss Marple begins asking questions on her own when the police dismiss her concerns. The inquiry turns more serious as further deaths follow.

George Pollock directed, working from a screenplay by James P. Cavanagh, with George H. Brown and Lawrence P. Bachmann producing for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer British Studios and George H. Brown Productions. It is the second of four films Pollock directed, following Murder She Said and preceding Murder Most Foul and Ten Little Indians. Margaret Rutherford plays Miss Marple, the second time she took the role, alongside Stringer Davis as Stringer, Robert Morley, Flora Robson, Charles Tingwell and Gordon Harris. The film runs eighty-one minutes.

Audiences have received it well: it holds a 7.2 rating on IMDb from about seven thousand five hundred votes and a 7.1 on TMDB, while a small group of critics gave it 7.1, close to the audience view.
