Shock Corridor

Johnny Barrett is an ambitious journalist who sees a murder inside a mental institution as his route to a Pulitzer Prize. Since the patients who witnessed the killing cannot be relied on as witnesses, Barrett decides to enter the hospital himself, pretending to be insane so that he can investigate from the inside. His girlfriend Cathy opposes the plan, fearing that once he is committed he may not be able to hold on to his sanity.

Samuel Fuller wrote, produced and directed the film. It followed Park Row, Pickup on South Street and Forty Guns in his filmography and came before The Naked Kiss and, much later, The Big Red One and White Dog. Peter Breck plays Barrett, with Constance Towers as Cathy and Gene Evans, James Best, Hari Rhodes and Larry Tucker in supporting roles.

Shock Corridor was released in September 1963 and runs 102 minutes. It is a drama with mystery and thriller elements, made in the United States by Allied Artists Pictures with Leon Fromkess-Sam Firks Productions. On IMDb it holds a rating of 7.3 from nearly 14,000 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.9 from a much smaller number of votes. A critics' rating of 7.9 from 18 reviews places it somewhat above both audience scores.
